Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Malaga, Spain. His long birth name is Pablo Diego Jose Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Maria de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santisima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso. I bet his birth certificate was dozens of pages long with a name like that.
This is a picture of him taken by Irving Penn in 1957.

He painted some self portraits as well.

In 1891, Picasso's family moved to La Coruna where he attended the School of Fine Arts. In 1896 the family moved again to Barcelona, where Pablo studied at the School of Fine Arts. His first exhibition was in Paris in 1901.

Women in the Loge, 1901

The years between 1901 and 1904 were called the Picasso's Blue Period, where nearly all of his work contains shades of blue and has somber, introspective tones to it.

Between the years 1904 and 1905 were Picasso's Pink Periods. The paintings became more delicate and natural with pink tones throughout his work.

Pablo Picasso is known for co-founding the Cubism movement, which was adapted from African and Native American art. This went from 1909 to 1917.

Ma Jolie, otherwise known as Woman with a Guitar, 1911-1912

When I was in middle school art class, our art teacher had us do something I have never done before. He had us turn this picture upside down and try to draw it on another piece of paper. It was so difficult! I think we had to do it in the beginning of the year and at the end.
I always had so much trouble trying to draw his hands woven together.
At that age, I think we all thought the portrait was just of an ugly guy, but I appreciate it now that I know it is by Picasso.

Three Musicians, 1921

Picasso completed the black, white and gray painting below in just six weeks. It reflects the destruction caused by the bombing of the town Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.

Dove of Peace, 1946

My favorite painting of his is this one.

Mujer con Mantilla, 1917
